Crossfire War: South Asia; Nepal - Skepticisim Regarding Maoist "Cease Fire"
By Willard Payne
Night Watch: KATHMANDU - There is a telling excerpt from Mao’s "Little Red Book", a manual that has for decades been the bible for revolutionaries, "Make good use of the intervals between campaigns to rest, train, and consolidate our troops. Periods of rest, training and consolidation should not in general be very long, and the enemy should so far as possible be permitted no breathing space." [Peace Journalism]
This quote is part of an extensive article written by M. R. Josse on the recent ceasfire annoucement by the Maoists in Nepal, whose uprising for more than a decade has killed more than 10,000 people. He states, as have others that the Maoists are being guided and managed by India. The author demands that New Delhi’s involvement with the uprising be taken into serious consideration at the forth coming UN World Summit.
He also stresses that Western Ambassadors based in Kathmandu, who like to make sweeping statements on what Nepal should do, should instead question their respective Embassies in New Delhi concerning India’s destabilizing influence. M. R. Josse can be reached via: jshrestha@gmail.com
