Unmanned Aerial Vehicles In New Orleans
SAVANNAH, Tenn. (EWORLDWIRE) Sep 7, 2005
The ISR Group based in Savannah, Tenn.(www.isrgroup.com) has teamed with L-3 Communications Integrated Systems, Greenville, Texas to deploy ten Unmanned Aerial Vehicle systems for operations in the tri-state disaster areas. Three flight teams arrived overnight in the New Orleans area and have set up a mobile command post at the New Orleans Naval Air Station just south of the affected city.
The teams will be utilizing L-3's Evolution UAV which is a similar but more advanced model of the Dragon Eye UAV currently deployed with the U.S. Marine Corps in Iraq. The state of the art Evolution UAV is equipped with color cameras, GPS to identify precise locations, and infrared sensors that allow the UAV to operate at night and to pickup heat signatures. The teams will be tasked with locating survivors for rescue, flood damage assessment and repair planning of infrastructures.
This operation is the largest non-military deployment of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles by any country.
