First Iraqi Air Force Missions Successful
By Alan Gray, NewsBlaze
In an operation last Sunday and Monday and as a testament to their own progress, the 23rd Air Transport Squadron of the Iraqi air force flew a battalion of Iraqi army soldiers from Erbil to Tall Afar.
The missions were flown in support of repositioning of forces for counterinsurgency operations in the western Nineveh province.
Three Iraqi C-130 aircraft -- each airlifted a full complement of soldiers from the 2nd Iraqi Army Division on a two-day mission designed to reposition combat assets.
This was the first use of the new Iraqi air force to directly support the deployment of Iraqi combat forces inside of Iraq.
