Precision Airstrikes Destroy Al Anbar Terrorist Groups
"In our military operations this week, the coalition continued to take the fight to the enemy, specifically in the Al Anbar province. We conducted precision airstrikes against terrorist safe houses along the border to prevent al Qaeda in Iraq sanctuaries and to further deteriorate their ability to conduct operations against Iraqi citizens, Iraqi security forces and coalition forces." - Major General Rick Lynch, Deputy Chief of Staff, Multinational Force, Iraq.
Intelligence led to the identification of these hideouts and the location of Abu Islam, the terrorist Amir Hosaba who had been conducting numerous attacks against Iraqi security forces, coalition forces and local tribes in the area. And in short, Abu Islam was attempting to control and to gain power in that community.
Utilizing detailed planning and surgical execution, we were able to destroy four terrorist safe houses. The use of precision munitions allowed us to specifically target these structures while minimizing and mitigating the likelihood of any civilian casualties.
We resoundingly achieved our goals and have ended the threat posed in this particular group of al Qaeda terrorists in Al Anbar. These were coalition airstrikes on limited targets, but we also conducted 14 combined coalition and Iraqi security force brigade-level operations across Iraq this week.
