Crossfire War: East Asia; Flashpoint - East China Sea
By Willard Payne
Night Watch: TOKYO - In the latest development in Asia’s most instense flashpoint, Reuters reports that Japan has urged China not to begin production in an area Tokyo considers its EEZ.
The demand was made after China’s CNOC Ltd announced Tuesday that gas production in the Chunxiao field could begin next month. The head of Japan’s Foreign Ministry Asian and Oceanic Affairs Bureau, Kenichiro Sasae, delivered the message to an official at China’s embassy in Tokyo.
"He called for a stop to development work… and said it was very regrettable that such work was taking place." It was only last month that this site reported Tokyo granting exploration rights, in the disputed area, to a Japanese company with their exploration scheduled to have begun this month.
Either nation could begin the fighting by attacking each other’s drilling platforms or survey ships. The U. S. supports Japan since China and Iran have increased their cooperation in an attempt to divide Central Asia’s raw materials in opposition to the West, Russia and Japan.
An added incentive to support Japan is China continuing support of Iran’s preparation for war with the West, Russia and India. Beijing has long been a source of nuclear and missile technology to Islamic countries, the extent of which will not be known until after the war.
