Crossfire War: Middle East; Tehran - Breakthrough Announced in Nuclear Program
By Willard Payne
Night Watch: TEHRAN - Iranian state television quoted the unnamed manager of its new breakthrough in using biotechnology to extract larger amounts of uranium concentrate from its mines at reduced costs. {Reuters August 30, 2005]
"The new technique used for production of yellowcake will reduce costs, and efficiency will increase one hundred-fold as well." Reuters reported that yellowcake, also known as concentrated uranium oxide, is an early stage of the nuclear fuel cycle and is fed to atomic reactors. The same process can be used to produce bomb grade material.
Iran’s Russian scientists, that went south with the break up of the Soviet Union, have obviously not been idle and they are employed in nuclear bomb proof facilities constructed by Bechtel Group, via its London branch office in Hyde Park.
This latest development will no doubt be at the top of the agenda of subjects to be examined at the Berlin-Moscow summit next month. This should give the Berlin-Moscow concern an increased sense of immediacy. The only thing that can seize the initiative away from Tehran is for Moscow to improve its military response in the Caucasus and find agents in Central Asia that are dependable. Islam Karimov in Uzbekistan is not an example of that and his continued presence gives more support to Islamic fundamentalists.
The longer it takes to seriously threaten Iran the more they can develop their nuclear and other advanced weapons programs. I assume they will first be displayed against India in support of Pakistan. Riyadh will also use India as a test for the accuracy of their 50-60 CSS-2 missiles they purchased from China 20 years ago. Each missile has a 2,500 m (4,000 km) range.
The West mouthing about impotent sanctions is not a threat of any kind since they are easily avoided due to so much corruption.
