Virtium Introduces Industry's First Enhanced DDR2 ECC Registered SODIMM at Intel Developer Forum
Design Represents New Standard for Industrial Applications; Supports Range of Next-Generation Embedded Computing Platforms
INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM, Booth #1021 --
Virtium Technology Inc., a leading innovator and manufacturer of the
highest density memory solutions for space-restricted applications, today
introduced its family of DDR2 ECC registered SODIMMs. Virtium is the first
industrial memory manufacturer to add error correction code (ECC) and
registered functionality to DDR2 SODIMMs, creating a new standard memory
product optimized for specific OEM applications requiring ECC capability.
Virtium's enhanced DDR2 ECC registered SODIMM product family is designed to
support next-generation embedded computing platforms, such as AdvancedTCA,
ATCA-AMC as well as CompactPCI and VME. Virtium's DDR2 ECC registered
SODIMMs are available lead-free, including densities of 1 GB and
potentially up to 2 GB, speed ranges of PC2-3200/PC2-4200/PC2-5300, and
both commercial and extended temperature ranges.
"Virtium's family of DDR2 ECC registered SODIMMs was developed out of
necessity to satisfy the many customers clamoring for such a solution,"
said Phan Hoang, business development manager and chief engineer, Virtium
Technology Inc. "With the introduction of this technology, we now offer a
truly unique advantage for high-performance memory applications -- enabling
OEMs to differentiate themselves with space-saving designs that include
extra features and performance."
Embedded systems frequently require high-density memory modules in small
form factors such as SODIMM. However, industrial memory designers have
historically struggled with evolving to DDR2 SODIMM, as it has thusfar
excluded the ECC and registered functionality absolutely critical to
industrial memory applications. Virtium's DDR2 ECC registered SODIMMs also
allow simple migration and a roadmap to future standards.
Virtium's family of DDR2 ECC registered SODIMM products is available and
shipping now. For specific part numbers, mechanical specifications or to
