Trey Songz Hits Road on Cingular College Tour in Wake of Top 20 Billboard 200 Debut; Singer Makes It With "I GOTTA MAKE IT"
Songbook Entertainment/Atlantic recording
artist Trey Songz hits the concert trail today as he embarks on the
Cingular Wireless Historic Black Colleges and Universities "Back to School"
tour. The 22-campus tour kicks off at Grambling State University in
Grambling, Louisiana, and makes stops at schools across the South.
Students at each university will have the exclusive opportunity to attend
Trey's concerts for free.
The tour's announcement follows the recent impressive premiere of Trey
Songz's debut album, "I GOTTA MAKE IT," which entered the Billboard 200 at
#20, selling more than 40,000 units. "I GOTTA MAKE IT" also entered the Top
R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart at #6. "I GOTTA MAKE IT" features the current hit
single, "Gotta Make It."
To celebrate his album's release, Songz made a special in-store appearance
at his local Circuit City in Colonial Heights, Virginia. "I GOTTA MAKE IT"
made history by selling more units than any previous in-store event held at
the store. Within hours of the store's opening, more than 600 CDs were
sold, representing nearly 20 percent of Circuit City's nationwide first-day
sales.
In addition, AOL Music named Songz to their prestigious developing artist
Breakers program in early May. His AOL Sessions performance and video have
received over 500,000 plays to date, and his single, "Gotta Make It," is
being spun over 110 times a week on AOL Radio, where it has a user rating
of 9 out of 10.
Songz has received acclaim from critics, industry insiders, and fellow
musicians alike. Atlantic Records Founding Chairman Ahmet Ertegun stated
that "Trey is among the most promising R&B artists we have had on Atlantic
since we started the company nearly 60 years ago. I believe he is poised
to be the heir of our great R&B legacy."
