No Salt, No Sugar, Plenty of Taste -- New Book Helps Cooks Prepare Healthy Meals for Entire Family

  Share With Friends

BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Aug. 15, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- When the doctor restricts one member of the family from enjoying salt and sugar, it can dampen the mealtime experiences of every person in the house. But according to E.L. Hughes' new book, It's Hard to Believe With No Salt No Sugar (now available through AuthorHouse), that does not have to be true.

In this cooking guide, she explains how to turn a bland, healthy meal into a healthy meal that bursts with flavor. Salt and sugar are not the only sources of taste.

"It doesn't matter how nutritious food is. If it doesn't taste good, you nor your family will eat it. With our flavor packed seasoning recipe and cooking methods, we have merged taste and nutrition, giving families delicious and nutritious meals without adding salt or sugar," Hughes writes.

When her husband, who had been raised on rich, Southern dishes, was diagnosed with diabetes, high blood pressure and heart failure, her family rejected the doctor's cooking recommendations because of their lack of taste. Soon, however, Hughes conjured some creativity and developed the dozens of recipes found in this book. From vegetable and potato dishes to sumptuous desserts, Hughes offers quick and easy recipes that slash salt and sugar intake and boost flavor. Macaroni and cheese, zucchini casserole, BBQ pork chops and strawberry shortcake are a few of the treats that are surprisingly both healthy and memorable.

With the additional benefit of weight charts, portion sizes and tips for controlling diabetes, It's Hard to Believe With No Salt No Sugar is a handy resource for turning meals into something exciting rather than a dreadful experience.

Also raised in the South, Hughes cooked delicious food with traditional ingredients. Through trial and error, she developed the more healthful recipes in It's Hard to Believe With No Salt No Sugar, her first book. More information is available at www.nosaltnosugar.com.
