SMART Modular Technologies Introduces 144-Pin SO-DIMMs for Computer Peripheral and 16-bit Embedded Computing Applications
Available in DDR and DDR2 Technologies, the New Line of Memory Modules Offers a Scalable, Low-Cost Solution in a Small Form Factor

SMART Modular Technologies, a leading
independent manufacturer of memory module products and services, has
launched a new lineup of DDR and DDR2 144-pin SO-DIMMs aimed at computer
peripherals, such as printers and scanners, and embedded computing
applications, including industrial control and automation.
The new 144-pin SO-DIMMs are configured with a smaller 16-bit memory
interface that helps lower costs and improve performance for peripheral
applications as compared to using larger, industry-standard 64-bit or
72-bit memory interfaces. Rather than using an oversized 64-bit module or
discrete devices soldered onto the system board, the new 16-bit SO-DIMMs
provide the scalability and cost savings required by designers of these new
systems.

SMART's 144-pin SO-DIMMs are offered in DDR as well as DDR2 technologies.
Able to select from either type, OEM system designers can focus on
optimizing their designs rather than being concerned with continually
changing memory technologies. The product lineup includes a full range of
speed grades; for DDR, the speeds ranges from PC2100 to PC3200, for DDR2,
the speed ranges from PC3200 to PC5300.
In addition to peripheral computer applications, the 144-pin SMART SO-DIMMs
are ideal for embedded computing applications that use 16-bit processors.
Typically, industrial control and instrumentation applications use memory
devices that are soldered onto the board. Benefiting from a small (2.66" x
1.25" in maximum) form factor, the SMART SO-DIMMs do not need to be
soldered onto the board and can be placed horizontally within very tight
space constraints.
