Crossfire War: SE Europe; ANA Signal Campaign Against International Administrati

Night Watch: PRISTINA - Threatening letters from the Albanian National Army (ANA) have been received by UN officials in Kosovo, which indicate a new campaign against the international administration of Serbia’s southern province, as reported by B92 News.

Agim Ceku, commander of the Kosovo Protection Corps, formed by the transformation of the guerrilla Kosovo Liberation Army, stated they are not surprised by the group’s threats. Ceku said that this is the group that has organized bomb attacks on UNMIK headquarters and attempted to assassinate President Ibrahim Rugova.

The attempt came in March 15, this year, the day after Iran’s then President Mohammad Khatami visited the region and two of its capitals, Zagreb and Sarajevo. The ANA probably had support from Tehran because Rugova is a moderate and Tehran has no use for moderate leaders.

In a government that thrives on crisis, Tehran is preparing to start a new round of Balkan fighting in order to re-direct the EU/US attention toward the Balkans and away from Iran’s nuclear program. An example of Teheran’s two-pronged stragtegy, while you engage in talks you prepare to attack.

Dusan Janjic, director of the Forum for Ethnic Relations observed that what has opened the door for extremists activity is the failure between Kosovo Albanian politicians and UN officials to cooperate. "It’s obvious that the Albanian movement is mixing violence with politics. When politics isn’t working they resort to violence."

This new round of fighting is perfect timing for Iran. In the meantime the French general stationed in this area stated he has seen no evidence of a resumption of ANA activity.
