Multiple operations concentrate on terrorism eradication
U.S. military sources say that Iraqi and coalition forces have increased pressure on indigenous and foreign forces that have been working to disrupt lives and livelihoods in Iraq. These operations are having a positive effect.
Army Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Carden is quoted in an August 7 news release issued by the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) as saying Able Warrior will help the Iraqi Security Forces take more control of day-to-day operations. "We want to set the Iraq Army up for success," he said.
"Operation Able Warrior," for example, has pulled in 40 terrorist suspects operating west of Baghdad International Airport. The operation has specifically targeted those who have been responsible for a deadly wave of roadside bombs.
Meanwhile in western Iraq, "Operation Quick Strike" has 180 Iraqi Security and Special Operations Forces focused on disrupting hostile forces, especially foreign terrorists, in the areas of Barwanah, Haditha and Haqliniyah.
A recent dragnet in the Mosul area picked up a Syrian national who was allegedly distributing terrorist propaganda, according to an August 8 release issued by the Multi-National Force in Iraq.
The Iraqi government is working to improve intelligence coordination and communications as it combats disruptive forces that are fomenting turmoil.
Speaking August 4, Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jafari said Iraqi soldiers and civilians alike are standing up to the insurgents and demonstrating courage on a daily basis in the face of adversity.
