National Extreme League Announces Launch of National Amateur League in Skateboarding, BMX and Inline Skating
The National Extreme Sports League ("NXL"), a
league designed to provide organized skateboarding, BMX (bicycle
moto-cross) and inline skating competitions, announced today that it will
begin its inaugural season in the fall of 2005. The league targets a
growing section of action sports enthusiasts worldwide, in response to
events such as the ESPN X Games, the Mountain Dew Tour and interest of the
International Olympic Committee.
The NXL offers amateur action athletes a national league consisting of a
ten-week fall and spring series culminating in the NXL Nationals. Youth and
young adult athletes may compete in a number of age divisions progressing
to their State and Regional finals. The spring 2006 series will be capped
by the NXL Nationals, which will crown an amateur champion in each event.
The NXL will revolutionize the way industry sponsors; spectators and fans
are able to view amateur participants from across the nation through
real-time photos, video, scores and stats. Action sports represent the
fastest growing sector of sports in the U.S. based on participants,
spectators and television viewers. The NXL is funded in part by Gray
