Harsco Corporation Awards 23 College Scholarships to Its Best and Brightest Students

Company Marks 31st Consecutive Year of Awards Totaling More Than $3 Million

HARRISBURG, Pa., Aug. 3, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Worldwide industrial services and products company Harsco Corporation announced today the award of 23 college scholarships to assist outstanding children of Harsco employees throughout the world in obtaining the advanced education necessary to reach their career goals. The scholarships, all funded by the Harsco Corporation Fund charitable giving arm, are open to students in any country and any discipline, and are worth as much as $3,500 per year per student.

"We view the Harsco scholarship program as our opportunity to invest in the world's future leaders and help them realize their full potential, both as scholars and citizens," said Harsco Chairman, President and CEO Derek C. Hathaway. The awards mark Harsco's 31st consecutive year of providing college scholarship assistance to the top-performing children of its employees, during which time the Company has awarded more than $3 million to nearly 350 deserving students. International scholarships were added to the program in 1999, in parallel with Harsco's increasing international business expansion, and have already led to some 100 awards in 17 countries.

This year's winners represent nine different countries, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Channel Islands, Indonesia, Slovakia, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States. The winners, eight in the U.S. and 15 internationally, were independently evaluated and selected by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation for U.S. recipients, and by the Institute of International Education for international recipients, based on their superior academic achievement, demonstrated leadership, community involvement, and personal character.
