Zoellick Meets Hong Kong Chief Executive
By Alan Gray, NewsBlaze
Robert Zoellick, Deputy Secretary of State met with Hong Kong's Chief Executive, Donald Tsang on July 30. The meeting was held on a day between a series of meetings with the ASEAN Southeast Asian countries in Laos and meetings in Beijing.
The meeting was arranged so Zoellick could learn about the process of economic evolution in Hong Kong, especially some of the political changes. They discussed U.S. relations with Hong Kong, a valued partner, with the special role it plays as part of China.
Discussion included some bilateral issues such as aviation agreements and intellectual property rights protection.
Zoellick said "We talked a little bit about the state of the regional economy. I briefed the Chief Executive about some of the discussions on avian influenza that took place at the meeting that we just had in Laos and the importance that my country and others in the region put on trying to prepare for any potential problems."
The Chief Executive may visit the United States later this year.
