SiBEAM Draws Top Wireless Talent From Industry and Academia
Attracts Five Experts in Wireless and High-Speed Technology From Atheros, Broadcom, Appairent Technologies and the Berkeley Wireless Research Center
SiBEAM, Inc., a developer of gigabit wireless
technology, has announced five key appointments. Having closed a $15
million financing round, SiBEAM is accelerating its recruitment of wireless
and gigabit communications experts, drawing seasoned veterans from renowned
organizations such as Atheros Communications, the Berkeley Wireless
Research Center, Broadcom and Appairent Technologies.
Leading SiBEAM's engineering and R&D team, Dr. Jeffrey Gilbert joins SiBEAM
as vice president of engineering, bringing expertise in integrated wireless
communication systems design. Dr. Gilbert joins from Atheros Communications
where he was director of algorithms and architecture and led the company's
802.11g, extended range, smart antenna, and most recently, 802.11n
development. He is widely recognized for both execution and thought
leadership in wireless communications technology.
Chinh Doan joins as SiBEAM's founding chief technology officer and Sohrab
Emami joins as founding chief architect. Both Doan and Emami are recognized
experts from the Berkeley Wireless Research Center for their research on
developing high frequency, high-speed wireless technology in CMOS. Doan and
Emami have been broadly commended for their breakthrough research,
including a best paper award at the 2005 ISSCC and numerous invited papers.
Dr. C. Bernard Shung joins as a founder and senior director of engineering,
bringing expertise in gigabit and multi-gigabit communications. Prior to
SiBEAM, Dr. Shung was director of engineering at Broadcom where he led the
team developing highly integrated Gigabit Ethernet and 10-Gigabit Ethernet
network switching products in LAN/WAN applications.
Dr. James Gilb joins bringing expertise in wireless multimedia and personal
area networking. Dr. Gilb is leading SiBEAM's involvement in wireless
technology standards and was also recently elected technical editor of the
IEEE 802.15.3c task group. Prior to joining SiBEAM, Dr. Gilb was director
of radio engineering for Appairent Technologies, Inc. and previously worked
for Motorola and Mobilian. Dr. Gilb is a recognized author on emerging
wireless technology and standards.
"We've assembled some of the brightest minds in wireless and high-speed
communications, drawing from multiple disciplines in the wireless
universe," said Dr. Bob Brodersen, chairman of SiBEAM and co-director of
the Berkeley Wireless Research Center.
"We will continue to grow our development team and look forward to bringing
more world-class experts into the company," said Dr. Tim A. Williams,
president and CEO of SiBEAM.
SiBEAM is accepting employment inquiries at this time from wireless and
high-speed communications engineers through its website and by email to
HR@sibeam.com.
