Varian Semiconductor to Host vTech Technical Symposium at Semicon West 2005
High-Level Event to Focus on Impact of Materials and Architectures for Sub-45nm Devices

Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates,
Inc. (NASDAQ: VSEA) will host its annual vTech technical symposium on
Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at San Francisco's Old Federal Reserve Building.
This year's symposium focuses on the impact of materials and architectures
for sub-45nm devices.
The all-day symposium begins at 8:45 a.m. and features presentations by
leading researchers Dr. Paul Packan (keynote), Intel; Dr. Kyoichi Suguro,
Toshiba; Dr. Mark Rodder, Texas Instruments; G. Dan Hutcheson, VLSI
Research Inc; Dr. Krishna Saraswat, Stanford University; Dr. Ghavam
Shahidi, IBM; Dr. Philip Fisher, AMD; and Dr. Satoshi Nakai, Fujitsu.
"vTech is a great opportunity to share research innovations required to
enable continued device scaling," said Peter Nunan, Varian Semiconductor's
vice president of technology development. "Just as device scaling brought
about OPC (Optical Proximity Correction) and PSM (Phase Shift Mask) to
extend lithography capability, scaling is impacting implant requirements
for more precise and accurate angle and dose control, while at the same
time tightening defectivity specifications. Customers tell us that the
opportunity to discuss scaling-related implant challenges and examine
potential solutions with their peers in a learning environment is a great
benefit. We are looking forward to discussing these challenges and to
another successful vTech symposium."
Now in its third year, the vTech technical symposium has quickly become a
must-attend event for leading researchers in the industry to discuss
technology needs impacting ion implantation. This one-day forum draws
together managers, technologists and key decision makers from leading
logic, memory and foundry semiconductor manufacturers to discuss transistor
trends, especially the challenges facing ultra-shallow junction formation.
Each of the distinguished speakers brings a unique perspective on device
scaling and various potential solutions.
Due to limited seating, early registration for this event is recommended;
however, same-day registration is available. For the complete program
details and to register, visit: https://www.vsea.com/seminars.
