Iraq: Insurgency changing in many ways
By Alan Gray, NewsBlaze
Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld said again Sunday that the insurgents and terrorists in Iraq may step up the number and force of their attacks before the elections in December.
On the other hand, some insurgent groups are looking to move into the political process.
The terrorists see political progress being made, especially the success of the elections. Now they are seeing Sunnis, Kurds and the Shi'a working together to draft the constitution.
It has also been reported that more and more Sunni leasders have been denouncing the actions of the terrorists and saying they don't care about the Iraqi people.
The secretary said that these successful steps towards democracy "must be disappointing" to the terrorists.
This realisation will probably cause them to work harder to oppose the new government and step up their efforts. At the same time, some insurgent groups will stop their violence and take part in the political process - and progress.
The changing face of the insurgency and terrorism in Iraq will probably never be clear until it is over.
That point will come after Iraqis see they have control over their own country and it is up to them to make changes happen. They must also believe that they have the power to effect change.
