June 23, 2005: Actors For Autism, Non-Profit Dedicated To The Advancement Of Peoople On The Autistic Spectrum, Launches With Moroccan-Style Soiree In West Hollywood
SANTA MONICA , Calif. (EWORLDWIRE) Jun 22, 2005
Actors for Autism (AFA), a non-profit organization comprised of individuals in the entertainment industry who are dedicated to the advancement, education and exposure of people on the autistic spectrum, will hold a launch party at The Abbey in West Hollywood. The cocktail party will be hosted by a Los Angeles special events firm, Renee Kelly Events, and is intended to generate awareness about Actors for Autism.
The party, with a Moroccan theme, will be attended by press, celebrities and supporters of the newly-formed non-profit organization. AFA was founded in 2004 by Alisa Wolfe, a former child actor who is the mother of two autistic children. Wolfe wanted to find something fun for her two children to do during the summer and, unsatisfied with the options, she approached Joey Travolta, an actor, director and former special education teacher, who manages Travolta's Entertainment Experience in Tarzana, Calif. When Travolta, brother of John Travolta, agreed to Alisa's proposal, Actors for Autism was born. "It's wonderful to get back to working with kids with special needs after so many years. I really missed that part of my life," says Travolta.
The organization's advisory board is comprised of entertainment celebrities such as John Landis, Fred Roos, John Schneider, Joe Mantegna, Dave Clark and Greg Evigan, who are all lending their talents to the cause.
The event is designed to promote awareness of AFA, and to say thank you to those supporters who have already offered their support. AFA depends on donations, memberships and other fees to sustain the cost of maintaining the organization and providing services, support and scholarships.
The launch party has many generous gift sponsors such as mariechavez, a Los Angeles-based jewelry collection created by designer Julie Marie Chavez; kai fragrances, developed in Malibu by Gaye Straza Rappaport, and sold at exclusive boutiques around the world; Nia, a pleasure-based fitness program; Sacred Love, Inc., an innovative multimedia and luxury lifestyle brand; Mimi & Coco, a Italian designer t-shirt line favored by the celebrities, and Bliss of Venice, an all natural, aromatherapy and skin care line.
