eyefortransport's report  -  Fortune 500 companies' views on the supply
chain and logistics landscape 2005/2006  -  examines the key issues faced
by supply chain executives, and how they are planning to overcome those
issues and driver their supply chain forward

[London, 6th June 2005]  The global transportation infrastructure is
reaching saturation point.  Booming trade, particularly in Asia, has
outstripped carrier capacity.   Consequently, many shippers are beginning
to care less about rate increases and more about ensuring that their
carrier, port and rail services are adequate to support JIT supply chains.

And global supply chains are becoming increasingly fragile.  With more
and more manufacturers and retailers sourcing components and products
from overseas on a JIT basis, there is no margin for error.  A broken
link in a supply chain can result in stock-outs and bring a production
line to a grinding and expensive halt.

Furthermore, today's supply chain executives are expected to more
accurately forecast demand, comply with legislation requiring
indisputable proof of supply chain integrity, and at the same time keep a
tight lid on costs.

This has created an opportunity for industry players to deploy
technologies that boost supply chain performance, improve reliability,
help manage inventory at optimum levels, and provide shippers with end-to-
end visibility.

Conducted during April and May 2005, eyefortransport's Supply Chain
Directions survey drew responses from over 200 supply chain professionals
from Fortune 500 companies and key players in world trade and in the
transportation industry.
