World Wide Technology Uses Comergent's Enterprise E-commerce System to Expand Its Business
Growth Achieved by Making It Easier for More Customers to Purchase More Products Online

Comergent Technologies®, Inc., the
leading provider of enterprise e-commerce solutions, is taking e-commerce
at World Wide Technology, Inc. (WWT) to a new level of breadth and
sophistication. WWT is a $1.4 billion leading systems integrator and
value-added reseller of technology products to government organizations,
automotive, telecommunications, and other Fortune 1000 companies. WWT
originally deployed the Comergent E-Business System(TM) in December 2002.
Since starting with Comergent, WWT has scaled the number of users on the
system from 1,000 to 6,000 and increased its online revenues by 525
percent. The system is so easy to use that WWT's customers are able to
authorize employees outside their own procurement department to purchase
pre-approved, standardized products directly -- making the process more
efficient and economical. Recently, WWT added the ability for the Comergent
system to interface directly with customers' procurement software from
Ariba, CommerceOne, and Oracle, as well as customized systems developed
in-house.
"One of our most important achievements has been proving that it's scalable
for even our largest customers," said Mark Franke, vice president, IT for
WWT. "Even those with highly customized requirements are successfully using
our online system and our customers are happy. We keep raising the bar with
Comergent and they keep clearing it."
Currently, WWT's customers can visit a customer-specific storefront Web
site to easily find the best solutions from a catalog of more than 600,000
items then generate quotes, place orders, change orders, and view status --
all 24/7. The success of the Comergent system has helped WWT expand into
new product categories and industry verticals, fueling WWT's overall growth
without proportional increases in sales costs.
"Before WWT's e-commerce system, two or three of our customers' purchasing
reps handled orders for the products WWT offers," said Franke. "Now, the
system is so easy to use that even employees who are not purchasing reps
are able to use it, thus eliminating single, ad-hoc purchases that don't
leverage an aggregate purchase or pre-negotiated price."
Throughout the evolution of WWT's enterprise e-commerce capabilities,
maintaining high quality service, both online and offline, has remained a
paramount concern. WWT has continually added features to improve the
customer experience online, including the ability to check inventory in
real time. This has been a tremendous benefit to customers, who need to
plan their deliverables and meet their commitments to stakeholders.
