Tiny Books . . . Tremendous Transformations
Two pocket-sized books from self-help guru Susan Jeffers offer a wealth of attitude-shifting, growth-inspiring, life-changing insights.
Santa Monica, CA--What seem like tiny things are often huge breakthroughs in disguise. And some of the hugest tiny things are those that happen in your mind. A sudden realization. The decision to replace a destructive mental habit with a life-affirming one. A vow to see the same old reality with fresh new eyes. If you're struggling through every day in a state of low-grade anxiety, a life of peace, confidence, and love may seem as far away as the moon. But according to Susan Jeffers, such a life is well within your reach. In fact, you already have it . . . all you have to do is learn how to look.
"All it takes is a split second to realize that everything you need to be happy is within your grasp," says Jeffers, author of The Little Book of Peace of Mind and The Little Book of Confidence. "That 'eureka' moment is a small moment in time--maybe a split second--but it's a huge moment in your life. It frees you. It allows you to cast off your fears and do anythinng. And if I can express what I've learned in words that might inspire such moments in my readers--such monumental shifts in perspective--well, that's all I could ask for in my career."
That's precisely the point of Jeffers's latest contribution to the self-help market. In her two "Little Books"--and yes, they are literally little, pocket-sized books--she has condensed life-changing insights from her bestsellers Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway and End the Struggle and Dance with Life. These three- by four-inch books--which make perfect gift items--are filled with bite-sized nuggets of wisdom on feeling calmer and more in control, maintainiing a joyful sense of peace and abundance, and facing your fears and turning them into power.
Here are a few excerpts:
From The Little Book of Peace of Mind
Jeffers Press, 2001, ISBN: 0-9745776-5-0, $5.95
Go around the obstacles. We can learn a lot by watching how water relates to the world around it. It's fluid. It goes around any obstacle in its way. (It doesn't stop to argue!) It flows downstream rather than struggling to push upstream as many of us are doing in life. It just goes with the flow. Perhaps that's why watching water is so peaceful to the human psyche.
Look mindfully. We can embrace the gifts of magic and excitement in the most ordinary of events--eating breakfast, balancing our checkbook, getting our cars washed, caring for a loved one, working, brushing our teeth, andd so on. The trick is to learn how to live in the moment, paying attention to the wonder of it all.
Giving feels great. Giving is an important part of embracing our abundance. Make it a daily ritual to include one payback item on your daily to-do list--whether it's contributing time or money to one of your favorite charities, sending a thank you note, buying a gift for someoone, or whatever it is for you. No question about it! Giving feels great!
Wait for the answer. When something is deeply troubling you, just sit with it. Don't DO anything. Listen to the wisdom within your being. Eventually you will get the answers you are seeking. In the emptiness, all things fall into place. It is a strange paradox that in emptying the mind, we find exquisite fullness.
From The Little Book of Confidence
Jeffers Press, 1999, ISBN: 0-9745776-4-2, $5.95
"I'll handle it." Repeating this affirmation can give you an enormous sense of peace when the frightening "What Ifs" come up in your life. "What if I lose my money? I'll handle it." "What if I get sick? I'll handle it." You really can handle whatever life brings you.
Feel the fear . . . and do it anyway. Often we think, "I'll do it when I am not so afraid." But in reality, it works the other way around. The "doing it" comes before the fear goes away. The only way to get rid of the fear of doing something is to go out and do it.
There are no mistakes. Don't worry that the "wrong" decision will deprive you of something--money, friends, status, lovers, or whatever the "right" decision is supposed to bring you. Remember, if you learn through yoour "mistakes," there are no mistakes.
Say "thank you" . . . often. Make a list of all the significant people in your life. Then systematically go about thanking them for all they have contributed to your well-being. The words "thank you" are two of the most powerful and giving words ever spoken.
The tips and insights in these books function much like affirmations--strong, positive statements that help you drown out the negative voice of your Lower Self (which Jeffers calls "the Chatterbbox"). She hopes that readers will keep the books close by for "affirmation emergencies."
"I advise people to tuck these books away in their car dashboards, briefcases, or pockets and pull them out to read when they need a quick reminder," says Jeffers. "Even if you wholeheartedly buy into these tips and insights, it's easy to forget them in times of stress or crisis--which is just when you need them most. It's amazing to me that a few well-chosen words can change the world--yet I see it haappen every day."
