iSoft e222 Controlled Substance Ordering System Successfully Completes Initial Drummond Group CSOS Audit Certification
Certification Ensures Manufacturers and Distributors Can Exchange e222 Forms for Controlled Substance Ordering and Fulfillment in a Predictable and Secure Manner Compliant With DEA Requirements

iSoft Corporation (www.isoft.com), a leading
provider of secure file transfer and enterprise connectivity software, and
Drummond Group Inc., (DGI), a leading interoperability and conformance
testing company, today announced that the iSoft e222 Controlled Substance
Ordering System (CSOS) has successfully completed DGI's initial CSOS audit
certification and received the DGI Certificate of Compliance as a
Controlled Substance Ordering System.
The DGI Certificate of Compliance ensures that the iSoft e222 application
is in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations Title 21 Parts
1311.55.b and 13.11.55.c.
CSOS is an electronic commerce initiative overseen by the DEA to provide an
automated alternative to the current paper-intensive process required for
purchasing and distributing Level I and II controlled substances. The DEA's
proposed rule for CSOS includes technical and business requirements for
products used to digitally sign, transmit or receive e222 forms. Software
companies that provide these products must participate in an initial audit
of the product and additional audits when changes are made to the core
digital signing technology. End-user companies that build in-house CSOS
systems for digital signing, transmission or receipt of e222 forms also
must be audited.
Once CSOS is implemented within the entire wholesale pharmaceutical
industry, including manufacturers and distributors, the DEA estimates
overall annual savings of about $264 million, or $1.8 billion over a period
of ten years.
The iSoft e222 CSOS application creates an electronic equivalent of the DEA
paper Form 222 (e222), supports digital signatures and provides a secure,
reliable foundation for managing transactions between manufacturers,
distributors, and pharmacies and the DEA's Controlled Substance Ordering
Systems -- eliminating the manual processing of Form 222.
It provides enterprises greater efficiency across the entire demand and
supply chain with features such as automated pre-configured deployments for
easier user implementations, EDI document generation and translation, and
application and database integration providing superior flexibility to fit
in with your existing environment.
Mapping and translation features enable end-user organizations to easily
import existing orders into the iSoft e222 system, giving them the freedom
to process orders using various document standards. Additionally,
acknowledgements returned from suppliers can be easily processed back into
existing legacy systems to meet specific integration needs. Automated
deployment services allow distributors to provide branded, pre-configured
application deployments to their clients to ease the burden of on-boarding
and setup. For buyers, such as pharmacies, iSoft e222 can now integrate
with current order entry systems using API calls to HTML pages, enabling
users to seamlessly leverage the power, security, efficiency, and reporting
services of iSoft e222, while continuing to use legacy order-entry systems.
Database integration enables the importing of controlled substance item
tables into the iSoft e222 database, with the option to use the FDA/DEA
drug tables provided by iSoft. This provides for automatic database updates
as controlled substance items are added, changed, or deleted.
iSoft Commerce Suite, the underlying AS2 subsystem for iSoft e222 (CSOS)
provides enhanced secure file transfers for transporting documents securely
and reliably over the Internet. Using a Federal Information Processing
Standards (FIPS) compliant module for all its cryptographic operations, the
iSoft e222 application fully supports personal signing technology for
ensuring message/record integrity, authentication and non-repudiation,
various PKCS standards, and SSL for secure connectivity. In addition,
sophisticated auditing and reporting features of the product accommodate
strict DEA reporting requirements.
"iSoft is pleased to successfully complete and be part of the initial DGI
CSOS audit certification," said Roy Hogsed, President and CEO, iSoft
Corporation. "To be Drummond Certified(TM) as a CSOS-compliant application
is indicative of iSoft's commitment to the pharmaceutical industry to
provide solutions that reduce costs, streamline order and fulfillment
processes, and improve overall efficiencies. iSoft's strong support of the
DEA's electronic CSOS standard, and our proven CSOS solution provides our
customers with absolute confidence in their iSoft e222 CSOS initiative and
investment."
To date, 14 of the top wholesale drug or pharmaceutical companies have
selected the iSoft e222 (CSOS) application for automating their controlled
substance orders and fulfillment. Wholesale drug or pharmaceutical
companies that have already selected the iSoft e222 CSOS application
include: Bellco Health, Dakota Drug, D & K Healthcare Resources, Inc., DIK
DRUG, H.D. Smith, Kinray, Inc., McQueary Brothers Wholesale Drug Company,
North Carolina Mutual Wholesale Drug Company, Smith Drug, Valley Wholesale
Drug Co, Inc., and Value Drug.
