ADELAIDE, Australia (EWORLDWIRE) Jun 6, 2005
The South Australian Government has implemented a six-year contract with Lion Apparel for its 3,500 Metropolitan Fire Service (SAMFS) and Country Fire Service (SACFS) fire fighters. This long-term partnership encompasses the manufacture and supply of state-of-the-art structural fire fighting suits and the provision of Lion TotalCare(R) garment management and maintenance services.
Lion Apparel was selected as the successful provider after a comprehensive 18-month tender process followed by an extended period of in-field and simulated trials resulting in further design refinements.
To officially launch the release of the ensembles, the SAMFS held a one-day seminar on May 6, 2005 in Adelaide. The launch, opened by the Honourable Carmen Zollo MP, Minister of Emergency Services, was attended by government dignitaries and senior fire service officers from other Australian states.
"The partnership between Lion Apparel, the SAMFS, and SACFS has seen the development of a structural fire fighting ensemble that represents a significant improvement in the area of PPE," said SAMFS Deputy Chief Officer Mick Smith. "The SAMFS believes the Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare of their employees is of paramount importance. The arrangements in place with Lion Apparel will compliment the Service's approach to OHS&W."
Lion Apparel International Vice-President Stuart Turnheim confirmed to the audience Lion's commitment to make this a successful venture. "This contract is the result of Lion's track record around the world as the leader in managed services for fire brigades. Lion TotalCare is the world standard and we expect that our SAMFS partnership will continue to prove that point. We are committed to delivering nothing short of excellent service to SAMFS and SACFS," Turnheim said.
