"World's Greatest Shoo-Fly Pie Bake-Off & Eating Contest" Celebrates Heritage of Pennsylvania Dutch Country
The Molasses Will Fly in Lancaster, PA, as Beloved Amish Dessert Comes Center Stage at Rockvale Outlets

Rockvale Outlets, in partnership with Good
Food, Inc. and Dutch Haven, will host the World's Greatest Shoo-Fly Pie
Bake-Off & Eating Contest, Saturday, June 25, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. The first
annual food contest designed to celebrate the heritage of Pennsylvania
Dutch Country, it is open to any non-commercial baker or competitive eater
who registers in advance at www.shooflypiecontest.com.
Shoo-Fly Pie, a Pennsylvania Dutch dessert, is a sponge cake baked in a
crust that contains a heavy molasses filling. It must be made with molasses
to be a true "Shoo-Fly Pie."
Commencing at 3:00 p.m., baking contestants will present their homemade
pies to a panel of celebrity judges. Following, one entry will be awarded
"Best Shoo-Fly Pie," the winner receiving a Golden Fly Swatter Award, and
an "Extreme Home Bake-Over"; a $500 collection of all-new baking equipment
from Kitchen Collection and Corningware Corelle Revere, both merchants at
Rockvale Outlets.
Following, competitive eating contestants will literally "step up to the
plate" for a good, old-fashioned eat-off. Contestants will feast on as
many Dutch Haven Shoo-Fly Pies as they can stomach in an eight-minute time
period. One winner will be named "Shoo-Fly Pie Heavyweight Champion," and
will take home a custom heavyweight title belt, in addition to a $500
shopping spree at Rockvale Outlets.
Official rules and registration are available at www.shooflypiecontest.com.
