FCC Official To Be Interviewed On Wireless Tech Radio Talk Show

WATERFORD, Va. (EWORLDWIRE) May 17, 2005

Lauren Van Wazer, co-director of the FCC Wireless Broadband Access Task Force and Special Counsel to the Chief of the FCC's Office of Engineering and Technology joins Wireless Tech Radio Wednesday, May 18 at 10 a.m. eastern. She will discuss key findings from the recent report and its recommendations for accelerating the availability of competitive broadband services to American consumers and businesses using wireless technology such as WiMAX and metropolitan Wi-Fi networks.

"The overarching goal of this initiative is to take a hard look at what we can do to extend the reach of broadband services to underserved areas and to provide increased competition in areas that already have access to broadband," said (former) FCC Chairman Michael Powell, who initiated the Wireless Broadband Access Task Force in May, 2004.

In March, 2005, FCC Broadband Wireless Report released the resulting report which included insight such as:

• Making use of television spectrum to deploy broadband wireless services without waiting until the conversion to digital television is complete

• Highlights the role of small, independent Wireless Internet Service Providers that serve many communities as a sole or primary provider of broadband Internet access

• Discusses the surprising and effective use of unlicensed portions of spectrum such as the popular 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz bands to provide "last mile" broadband Internet sccess

Van Wazer's appearance on Wireless Tech Radio is an exciting opportunity for the wireless community to hear from and speak directly to her about the recent report and what she learned about the real world of wireless broadband and its potential to change the market for broadband services.

"We've received tremendous interest in Ms. Van Wazer's pending appearance on Wireless Tech Radio," said Jim Sutton, Founder of Wireless Tech Radio. "We expect a large number of questions from callers and instant messages for Ms. Van Wazer. We're pretty sure this will be one of our most popular shows and will be downloaded and podcast by a lot of people who aren't able to listen live."
