Mission of Love Charities, Inc. Hosts Decatur "Bucky" Trotter Inaugural Fundraising Banquet
Mission of Love Charities, Inc. (MOLC),
announced today they are hosting the first memorial dinner honoring the
late State Senator Decatur "Bucky" Trotter on Friday, May 6, 2005, at
Martins Crosswinds in Greenbelt, Maryland.
LaGreta E. Trotter, wife of Decatur Trotter, will receive this year's most
prestigious "Trotter Humanitarian Award" to salute his achievements as a
great humanitarian. Each year moving forward, the Award will be given to
member(s) in the community who make a magnanimous contribution through
MOLC, as did Senator Trotter.
The Major sponsors of the Dinner, who are Greenbelt Metro Park, Mark Vogel
Companies, NAI The Michael Companies, Inc., NV Homes, Upshire Realty, and
Washington Management and Development Company with strong financial support
from the builder/development community and many local companies including
Safeway, Inc., and Chic-Fil-A at the Capital Centre will be joined by
nearly 500 guests to raise an expected $200,000.00. Proceeds will allow
MOLC to continue providing disadvantaged members of the local community
with food, home appliances, and clothing as well as job and life skills
training, targeting long-term stability and growth.
Barbara Harrison of NBC News 4 Today is Mistress of Ceremonies. Co-chairs
are Maryland State Senators Ulysses Currie and Elijah Cummings with the
keynote address being given by the Honorable Wayne K. Curry. Attendees
include Prince George's County Executive Jack Johnson, Chairman of the
County Council Samuel Dean, and State's Attorney Glenn Ivey.
"This event is an opportunity to recognize a real humanitarian and personal
friend who has made a significant contribution, not only to the community
and the State of Maryland, but also to Mission of Love Charities, Inc.,"
said Douglas Edwards, President and CEO. "As Chairman of the Board for
MOLC, Bucky was an extraordinary catalyst to our success."

Dr. Douglas E. Edwards and a group of citizens, who recognized that
governmental budget constraints were affecting essential services to an
increasingly vulnerable population, founded Mission of Love Charities, Inc.
in 1992. Since inception, the MOLC has supported over 150,000 individuals
and families residing in homeless shelters, living on the streets, or who
are at risk of becoming homeless. MOLC is an integral part of a Prince
George's County services network, receiving referrals from state and county
government agencies, schools, churches, and community organizations.
