Mission of Love Charities, Inc. (MOLC), announced today they are hosting the first memorial dinner honoring the late State Senator Decatur "Bucky" Trotter on Friday, May 6, 2005, at Martins Crosswinds in Greenbelt, Maryland.

LaGreta E. Trotter, wife of Decatur Trotter, will receive this year's most prestigious "Trotter Humanitarian Award" to salute his achievements as a great humanitarian. Each year moving forward, the Award will be given to member(s) in the community who make a magnanimous contribution through MOLC, as did Senator Trotter.

The Major sponsors of the Dinner, who are Greenbelt Metro Park, Mark Vogel Companies, NAI The Michael Companies, Inc., NV Homes, Upshire Realty, and Washington Management and Development Company with strong financial support from the builder/development community and many local companies including Safeway, Inc., and Chic-Fil-A at the Capital Centre will be joined by nearly 500 guests to raise an expected $200,000.00. Proceeds will allow MOLC to continue providing disadvantaged members of the local community with food, home appliances, and clothing as well as job and life skills training, targeting long-term stability and growth.

Barbara Harrison of NBC News 4 Today is Mistress of Ceremonies. Co-chairs are Maryland State Senators Ulysses Currie and Elijah Cummings with the keynote address being given by the Honorable Wayne K. Curry. Attendees include Prince George's County Executive Jack Johnson, Chairman of the County Council Samuel Dean, and State's Attorney Glenn Ivey.

"This event is an opportunity to recognize a real humanitarian and personal friend who has made a significant contribution, not only to the community and the State of Maryland, but also to Mission of Love Charities, Inc.," said Douglas Edwards, President and CEO. "As Chairman of the Board for MOLC, Bucky was an extraordinary catalyst to our success."

"In an ever changing community, MOLC is needed more than ever. I want to give special recognition to the Award Dinner Committee who is making this event a success. Senator Trotter would be as proud as I am knowing that this dinner, in his honor, will raise the monies needed to ensure the continuation and growth of the organization," stated Chairman of the Board, Steve Proctor of G.S. Proctor Associates.

Dr. Douglas E. Edwards and a group of citizens, who recognized that governmental budget constraints were affecting essential services to an increasingly vulnerable population, founded Mission of Love Charities, Inc. in 1992. Since inception, the MOLC has supported over 150,000 individuals and families residing in homeless shelters, living on the streets, or who are at risk of becoming homeless. MOLC is an integral part of a Prince George's County services network, receiving referrals from state and county government agencies, schools, churches, and community organizations.

Companies and individuals interested in contributing to MOLC in memory of Decatur Trotter should contact Executive Director, Vanessa Bright at 301-333-4440.
