Adventure Center Turns a Queer Eye on Antarctica

Just how far would you go to escape a traditional Christmas? Adventure Center's Out on the Ice Antarctic expedition cruise will take you to the ends of the earth for a truly 'out' there white Christmas. Share the holiday season with a group of like-minded queer folk... and a few hundred thousand penguins, dozens of whales and a huge array of other ice-bound wildlife.

Out on the Ice is a ten-night voyage aboard a state-of-the-art expedition cruise ship, the 110-berth Peregrine Voyager. With comfortable cabins, a panoramic viewing lounge and plenty of excursions away from the ship to cruise in Zodiac inflatable boats among the icebergs; visit penguin rookeries and seal colonies or go hiking; it's the antithesis of a 'regular' Christmas holiday.

The ship departs from Ushuaia, Argentina, heading to the Antarctic Peninsula to make its way through icy archipelagos. With a fleet of Zodiac inflatable boats that carry around 12 passengers, the daily itinerary involves breaking up into smaller groups to spend the maximum time ashore or exploring the hundreds of deserted bays.

There is even the option -- weather-permitting -- of spending a night on the ice, camping in the most remote and ruggedly beautiful wilderness on earth.
