PHOTO AVAILABLE: Historian's Estate Auction Grabs Worldwide Attention

WELLINGTON, Ohio (EWORLDWIRE) Apr 18, 2005

The third of four auctions covering the Mickey Mishne estate is scheduled for April 23, at 11 a.m. at the Gallery of Antiques and Estate Auctioneers in Wellington, Ohio. As with the two prior auctions, this one holds many unique and rare treasures. The breadth of Mishne's collection is formidable.

Offered for public auction are coveted Jack Juratovic and Dion Pears original oils and prints. These artists have received much attention from previous auction-goers. Thomas Moran etchings and original prints are going up for bid. Photos circa 1934, such as "Ten Thousand Feet Up" by Aubrey Bodine, are signed, dated and waiting. The ink and pencil sketches, as well as drawings by Peter Helck are among the numbered. This auction promises many high quality items for which the gallery is known.

"The combination of a live gallery auction along with live Internet bidding creates a unique opportunity for collectors worldwide to acquire important pieces for their collections. Many museums aggressively participated in our last auction," said John Farkas, auctioneer.

Featured among these notable artists is the original work of Samuel Bookatz. His work was so highly respected that while a Navy Lieutenant during WWII he was assigned to the White House to capture moments of America's history on canvas. Portraits of Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt, as well as other cabinet members, were created in the make shift artist studio also known through history as the Lincoln Bedroom. He attended the Cleveland Institute of Art and graduated in 1935. He furthered his education at the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts, the Academy Grand Chaumiere in Paris and the American Academy in Rome. There he won the esteemed Prix de Rome. By age 38 he had a solo show at the Corcoran. Bookatz has mastered many medias, not limited too but including, concrete, ink, crayon, oil, pastel, lithograph and collage. His works boast a unique abstract style. Elements of cubism and masterful drawing skills have inspired other writers to describe his work as "virtuosic." At 95 he is still an active member of the art community. He has two studios, one in Washington and the other in Virginia.

It is exciting to announce the works that will become available April 23 for public auction. Lot No. 105 and No. 106 are both original signed Bookatz pieces, and they will bring competitive bids. The two pieces, one an original pastel and the other an oil, are both gorgeous examples of the artist's sensitivity to the beautiful. Also featured in this auction is more turn of the century racing memorabilia. Plenty of Bugatti collectibles will be present. The gallery will be filled with a selection of vintage posters as well as a one of a kind, wall size photo collage from the 1999 Bugatti Exposition at the Cleveland Museum of Art.

Based on the turnout at the last two auctions, the third will continue to attract an audience of automotive art and transportation enthusiasts. Estate Auctioneers and Appraisers is once again honored to mediate the auction of such a prestigious, well-maintained and desirable collection. Prospective buyers are invited to join them at the auction gallery in Wellington, Ohio April 23 at 11 a.m. The auction will continue the following Saturday, April 30 at the Mishne residence at 4450 Poe Rd. in Medina, Ohio as the contents of Mishne's garage as well as his 16 acre estate is to be sold at auction.
