Writers4Relief.com Is Here - It's A New Way Of Doing Business
PUYALLUP, Wash. (EWORLDWIRE) Apr 6, 2005
An earthquake off of Indonesia, measuring 9.0 on the Richter scale, triggered tsunami waves December 26, 2004 that caused massive flooding and severe damage in several countries in Southern Asia and Eastern Africa - and shocked the world. Over 150,000 people lost their lives in one of the worst tragedies in human history. Yet within the midst of this collective darkness came a bonafide miracle. There was a tremendous outpouring of compassion and aide to those in dire need. Billions of dollars were pledged in support from countries around the world, and more importantly, a significant but profound realization that society's common humanness, by far, transcends any apparent differences.
For instance, the Sri Lankan government and the Tamil Tigers (the rebel group) decided to commence a cease fire, and cooperate in terms of helping tsunami victims. This same ceasing of hostilities occurred in Indonesia between the government and rebel troops. Also, in the United States, Republicans and Democrats were no longer divided, but beyond any party affiliation or particular ideology - and just wanted to help.
Writer4relief.com is a model philanthropic business venture that has been designed to support this spirit of giving. All the writers that are on this particular Web site have agreed to donate on a quarterly basis, at least, 15 percent of their commissions to the noted tsunami relief organizations. During the coming years, the tsunami victims will need food and safe water, reliable shelter, immediate family supplies, healthcare and disease prevention and mental health counseling.
So, the next time a reader wants to quietly peruse a novel or a non-fiction book, they can not only read but help others.
Kevin Marley, founder of Writers4Relief.com, was recently interviewed about this particular Web site and philanthropic business venture.
In the interview he said, "Right now, we're looking to simply establish ourselves on the Internet. Writers4Relief.com is designed to sell quality books, and later on, other products and perhaps services, much like a fledgling Amazon.com or eBay.com, and for people to recognize their common humanity, to put aside whatever differences we may have politically, religiously, or socially, and just target some of the more compelling and dire needs of humanity at this time, and simply help other people. Some people may ask, 'Why?' I'd rather ask, 'Why not?'"
