floyLeading IT Provider GTSI Adds Cray XD1 Supercomputer to Its Solutions Portfolio to Give Customers Added Computing Power

Partnership Combines Top-Performing Cray XD1 Platform With GTSI Expertise

Global supercomputing leader Cray Inc. today announced that it is teaming with government IT leader GTSI Corp. to offer the Cray XD1(TM) Opteron/Linux-based supercomputer to government agencies looking for powerful yet cost-effective supercomputing solutions. As a member of the recently launched Cray Channel Partner Program, GTSI will market the Cray XD1 system to a diverse customer base needing exceptional performance and scalability.

"Governments at every level are reaching out to citizens with programs and initiatives that require quantum leaps in computing power," said Jim Sweeney, GTSI's Linux technology practice manager. "By adding Cray's XD1 supercomputer to our broad range of products and services, we can offer our government customers a powerful Linux-based high performance computing (HPC) solution that meets their demanding performance requirements, while also staying within their budgets."

"We're delighted to welcome GTSI into our partnership program," said Steven Joachims, vice president of business development for Cray. "The company's extensive experience tailoring solutions for the government IT market gives us a great opportunity to showcase the industry-leading capabilities of the Cray XD1 system in a variety of government computing environments. For scientists and engineers in need of a platform that can easily handle their processing-intensive departmental and agency-wide applications, the Cray XD1 supercomputer delivers performance and scalability that was formerly only available on larger, more expensive systems."

The Cray XD1 supercomputer has been adopted by a number of government organizations worldwide, including the Desert Research Institute in Reno and Las Vegas, Nevada; the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in Manassas, Virginia; the U.S. Air Force Maui High Performance Computing Center on Maui, Hawaii; the Ohio Supercomputing Center in Columbus, Ohio; the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, Washington; the Alabama Supercomputing Authority in Montgomery, Alabama; and the USDA Forest Service Fire Sciences Laboratory in Missoula, Montana.

The Cray Channel Partner Program was established to bring the innovative Cray XD1 supercomputer to the global HPC market. Cray provides partners with expertise, services, and support aimed at helping them deliver best-in-class HPC solutions to their customers.

About the Cray XD1 Supercomputer

The Cray XD1 supercomputer features direct-connect processor (DCP) architecture, which removes PCI bottlenecks and memory contention to deliver superior sustained performance. The Opteron/Linux system runs x86 32/64-bit codes. Field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) are available to accelerate applications, and the Active Manager subsystem provides single-system command and control and high-availability features.
