Cutting Hair for a Good Cause -- Borrelli Salons' Hair Drive for Locks of Love, Providers of Wigs to Children With Medical Hair Loss

If you've had long hair for as long as you can remember, cutting off 10 inches is a big deal. For children who've lost all their hair due to a medical condition, it can be an even bigger deal. Inspired by stories and personal experiences, Borrelli Salons of Beverly Hills and West Hollywood hosted a hair drive for Locks of Love, a non-profit organization that provides hair pieces to children with long-term medical hair loss.

Steve Lococo, co-owner and style director of the Borrelli salons, lost his mother to cancer and witnessed what she went through when she lost her hair, which is why he supports this cause. "Losing all your hair can be devastating to a person's self-esteem," said Lococo, who is known to millions from his appearances on "Extreme Makeover," "Head 2 Toe" and "Before & After'noon Movies." "Our stylists, Antonio Posa, Daniel Ramos, Herman Colt and I were honored to donate our time to help transform lives. The hair donors were amazing and we are proud to support Locks of Love."

One such donor was mom and deputy, Sandra Garcia, who cut off her knee-length hair for the cause. She had kept her long hair for ease of style, but at a certain point it became too heavy for her head. Inspired by her eight-year-old son's barber and by seeing before and after photos of children who had received hairpieces, she knew she had to donate her hair to Locks of Love. It was a family event when her sister and grandnephew joined her for support. Borrelli salons gave her a sassy new do at no charge, and sleek styling products from the new Borrelli Collection hair care line to maintain her style.

Yves Guame also brought family, when his wife and 15-month-old daughter accompanied him to the salon. Guame loved his long hair and told his wife he would only cut it for a very good reason. When he heard about Locks of Love and saw Lococo on "Extreme Makeover" cutting someone's hair and then sending it to Locks of Love, he knew that there was no better reason to cut his own hair. Cut ponytail in hand, Guame kissed his daughter and said, "I hope this makes some child happy."

Not only do children gain a new hair style, they also regain confidence and self-esteem. The hair was sent to Locks of Love where it will be manufactured into wigs for deserving children.
