Healthtrac and the University of Kentucky Announce Substantial Medical Costs Savings With the Healthtrac Rewards Program -- Up to $350 per Participant

Healthtrac, Inc. through its
health management subsidiary Healthtrac Corporation, the leader in the
science of health promotion, and the University of Kentucky announce major
costs savings for participants in the Healthtrac Rewards program. An
evaluation of claims data conducted by UK shows that participation in the
program achieved health care costs savings ranging from $50 to $350 per
participant. Healthtrac found similar results in its evaluation of
self-reported data collected through its scientifically validated health
assessments.
"More than 4,500 people participated in the UK Healthtrac Rewards Program,"
said Lee T. Todd Jr., president of the University of Kentucky. "They're
helping control health care costs while improving their own health.
Preliminary data strongly suggests that participation in UK Healthtrac
Rewards and its associated programs could result in savings ranging from
$50 to $350 per participant. It is estimated that Healthtrac participants
used $500,000 to $800,000 less in health-related services than they would
have used if they had not participated in UK Healthtrac Rewards."
The Healthtrac Rewards program is offered to 14,000 employees and retirees
enrolled in the UK Health Benefit Plan. The program is a partnership among
the University Health Care plans, Wellness Program, Health Literacy
Project, and Healthtrac, and is designed to help participants assess their
ongoing health status while keeping them on track to better health. The
program consists of Healthtrac's online health assessments and tailored
intervention programs specific to a participant's health risks and/or
chronic conditions. Participants identified as high-risk through
Healthtrac's validated predictive algorithm may also receive health
coaching calls from UK's personal health counselors.
Healthtrac conducted a separate evaluation of self-reported data for
program participants collected through the health assessments. This
evaluation showed an average decrease of $93 per participant in direct
medical costs for the total population within the first year of the
program. Participants identified as high-risk and who completed a
Healthtrac Web-based lifestyle risk or chronic condition self-management
program showed a decrease of direct medical costs on average of $494 per
participant.
"These are exciting results," said James F. Fries, M.D., Stanford Professor
of Medicine and Medical Director of Healthtrac Corp. "The medical care
costs reduction in this evaluation of Healthtrac's online program matches
our results in studies of Healthtrac's paper based program."
