Girlshop.com Opens Flagship Store in NYC Meatpacking District

Girlshop, Inc. (parent company of
Girlshop.com, Guyshop.com and Totshop.com), the hip online fashion
purveyor, today announced the opening of their first brick and mortar store
in New York City's trendy Meatpacking District. Since 1998, Girlshop.com
has been known for stocking in-demand clothing and accessories from
up-and-coming fashion designers. After more than six successful years of
pioneering Girlshop.com's e-commerce business, founder Laura Eisman felt it
was time to bring the site's virtual glamour to the real world and real
time of retail. Girlshop's meatpacking store is the first in a rollout of
several more in the next few years in select cities throughout the U.S.
The 1,200-square-foot shop, located in a meat packer-turned-gallery at 819
Washington Street (between Little West 12th and Gansevoort), will stock a
sampling of some of the same designers that appear on the site, including
both indie-designer stars, such as Louis Verdad, Kenneth J. Lane, Ginger
and Java, Foley, Subversive, Plenty, Pegah, Selima as well as buzz-inducing
upstarts Editte Keshishian, Alka Vora and Bulga. Girlshop promises to be
the freshest meat in the neighborhood, throwing down a designer glove in
distinction to neighboring boutiques. A selection of "best-of" items from
Totshop and Guyshop will also be available along with computer pods where
shoppers can access the website's expanded assortment. Girlshop will even
be open late several nights a week catering to the night-crawling crowds
that flock Meatpacking after hours.
Inside, shoppers will find themselves in a warm space clad in a
1970s Mylar® wallpaper of pineapples (the international symbol of
hospitality) and eclectic furnishings, many purchased on eBay, including a
kidney-shaped brocade sofa and 1960s Lucite-prismed chandelier rescued from
a Lane Bryant store in Tennessee. Floor to ceiling silver tiled curtains
and an oversized oval looking glass in the dressing "lounge" reinforces
Girlshop's mantra that shopping (and trying on clothes) is nothing if not a
good time. With a friendly atmosphere reminiscent of the website's
famously playful girl-in-the-know voice, you'll want to invade it like your
best friend's closet. As Girlshop continues to grow and gain popularity,
it has become a recognizable brand, synonymous with the New York City
lifestyle and the spunky spirit of the women who make it happen. Now,
ladies (guys and tots) who can't wait to see what's new can hop in a cab
and have it all within minutes!
