Impinj Announces Investment by Digital Communications Luminary, Andrew Viterbi

QUALCOMM Founder Joins RFID Company's Technical Advisory Board

Impinj, Inc, the fabless semiconductor company whose patented Self-Adaptive Silicon® technology enables its high-performance Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) products, today announces that Dr. Andrew J. Viterbi will join the company's investment group and technical advisory board.

Dr. Viterbi is a co-founder and retired Vice Chairman and Chief Technical Officer of QUALCOMM Incorporated. He spent equal portions of his career in industry, having previously co-founded Linkabit Corporation, and in academia as Professor in the Schools of Engineering and Applied Science, first at UCLA and then at UCSD, where he is now Professor Emeritus. He is currently president of the Viterbi Group, a technical advisory and investment company.

"Impinj has innovative technology and a very impressive team," said Dr. Viterbi. "I am pleased to be associated with the company and look forward to contributing to its success."

In addition to his accomplishments in business and academia, Dr. Viterbi is well known for his development of an optimum detection algorithm which is ubiquitous in modern communications systems. This technique, called the Viterbi Algorithm, is used in most digital cellular phones and digital satellite receivers, as well as in such diverse fields as magnetic recording, voice recognition and DNA sequence analysis.

"The addition of Andrew Viterbi to the Impinj team is very exciting," said Dr. William Colleran, president and CEO of Impinj. "Dr. Viterbi's insights into both the technology and business of digital communications will prove invaluable to Impinj's efforts in RFID. Coincidentally, the Viterbi Algorithm is uniquely suited to improve performance of next-generation RFID systems now being developed at Impinj."
