Two Thousand Student Scientists to Compete in Detroit

DETROIT, Feb. 4, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Students from Wayne, Oakland and Macomb County public and private schools will present their best science and engineering projects in Cobo Conference and Exhibition Center March 8 to 12, 2005.

The 48th Annual Science and Engineering Fair of Metro Detroit is a showcase for outstanding work by top science students, many of whom go on to state and international science fairs. Last year, 1,718 projects were entered representing 126 schools and 285 teachers.

Judging is by a blue-ribbon panel of science and engineering leaders, including over 100 from Ford Motor Company alone. More than $100,000 in professional and corporate awards will be offered this year to participating students. Eight Senior Division Grand Award winners will receive an all-expense-paid trip to the International Science Fair in Phoenix, Arizona.

Students who choose to submit their entry via the Fair website will appreciate a new feature - Computer Artificial Intelligence - that analyzes submissions instantly. In a matter of seconds, applicants will learn if their entry is likely to be accepted. Forms, rulebooks, and multi-media support can also be accessed by teachers and mentors at the website http://www.sefmd.org Deadline for entering projects is Friday, February 11, 2005.

The Science and Engineering Fair of Metro Detroit is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting science and engineering discovery in students in 7th through 12th grade. The Science and Engineering Fair of Metropolitan Detroit is the largest one of its kind in the country.
