Viscount Begins MESH Sales to Hospitals

Viscount today announced the company has commenced shipping MESH orders to a number of hospitals internationally.

"We are targeting hospitals and critical care facilties as logical markets for MESH," said Viscount President and CEO Steve Pineau. "In analyzing this market we found that MESH has major advantages over older Wiegand technology. To improve patient safety and reduce hospital liability, MESH addressable readers and redundant servers can prevent the types of tragedies possible with Wiegand systems. An unreported Wiegand reader or controller failure can prevent emergency staff from entering a secured drug storage area. Such a delay could literally be the diference between life and death." Added Pineau, "Hospitals often must compromise security for budgetary purposes. The cost of Wiegand systems often results in a reduced scope of work and therefore management must decide which doors to secure and which to sacrifice. MESH provides the cost solution as well as a greatly reduced cost for system expansion, management and service. Viscount can provide comprehensive life safety, communications and security solutions that Wiegand 'card reader only' systems cannot. Expansion capabilities include visitor kiosks, patient nursecall, emergency paging and telephones, and visitor tracking."

Current installations include Ontario, Canada's Lady Dunn Health Center. Viscount dealer Steel Communications is installing a MESH Server array for 30 secured doors with expansion abilities to include MESH panels and WAN-connected readers to secure satellite facilities. The Lady Dunn Health Center provides 24-hour emergency services, surgical programs, physio and occupational therapy, diagnostic services and long-term care beds.

According to Pat McGuire of Steel Communications, "The proposals for Wiegand technology at this facility resulted in the typical budgetary dilemna of which doors not to secure and the realization that future expansion would be extremely expensive. With MESH we have managed to provide management their full security scope and within a reasonable budget. We expect this site as well as other goverment related MESH sites we will be installing will generate a great deal of interest. As an IT-based platform, MESH allows government agencies to expand from a single site to full regional or province wide network of systems."

New MESH orders are coming from hospitals in Canada and the NorthEastern United States. As well, specifications for MESH are being prepared for projects for both Canadian Provincial and US State Health Boards for large deployments.
