Wal-Mart announced at the end of December that they were on track with about 136 of their suppliers to start shipping tagged cases and pallets to three distribution centers. Wal-Mart set a target to expand RFID implementation to 12 distribution centers and up to 600 stores by October 2005. The company projects that over 200 major suppliers will be utilizing RFID tags by January 2006 and also expects that the cost of RFID tags will fall from 50 cents to about 5 cents per tag by 2006.
