SEQUANS Communications Appoints Professor Hikmet Sari as Chief Scientist

SEQUANS Communications, a fabless semi-conductor
company in the 802.16/WIMAX space, has appointed Professor Hikmet Sari as
Chief Scientist. Hikmet is a world-renowned expert in the field of digital
communications. An IEEE Fellow and a recipient of several international
awards, he has published over 140 journal and conference papers, making key
contributions on the subject of OFDM. In particular, he introduced the
notion of OFDMA in 1996, and this multiple access technique was quickly
adopted in digital video broadcasting and wireless communications
standards. He is currently Professor and Head of the Telecommunications
Department at French University SUPELEC.

In his new position, Hikmet will lead the technical orientations of the
company, working closely with the R&D teams, as well as representing
Sequans in various technical bodies. "I am very happy to have someone of
Hikmet's caliber on board. His extensive technical knowledge will be of
great use to us as WiMAX evolves from fixed to portable and mobile
applications," said Georges Karam, President and CEO of Sequans. "Hikmet
will ensure that Sequans always stays at the forefront of technological
innovation."
"It is very exciting to join Sequans, because this company gathers many of
the talented people who developed in 2000-2001 the world's best cable modem
termination system technology," said Hikmet Sari. "I see today a true
opportunity to repeat the same success story in the field of broadband
wireless access, and it gives me an immense pleasure to be a part of this
team."
