Sonic Network Announces Three License Agreements to Provide Embedded Audio for the China Mobile Market
Companies Rush to Provide New Mobile and Multi-Media Chipsets to Support ODMs Developing Multimedia Enabled Phones

Sonic Network, Inc., a worldwide provider of
audio synthesis technology to the handheld consumer device and musical
instrument markets, today announced it has entered into agreements to
license its EAS(TM) Embedded Audio Synthesis technology to Agere Systems,
Fangtek Ltd. and one other well-known Chinese Semiconductor Corporation (to
be made public in Q1-2005).
Global semiconductor company Agere licensed Sonic's EAS(TM) ringtone
technology for its new GPRS/EDGE wireless phone reference platform. Fangtek
Ltd., a fables IC design house, will utilize Sonic's EAS synthesis in a new
family of multi-media processors aimed at the mobile audio and gaming
industries. A third China-based semiconductor company, to be named in early
2005, has licensed Sonic Network's EAS wavetables to provide high-quality
audio in its multi-media ICs targeting the fast-growing Chinese mobile
phone market.
"We have seen growing user and OEM demand for higher quality audio
capabilities in the mobile markets," said Jennifer Hruska, president of
Sonic Network. "In particular, as China is expected to become one of the
world's leading sources of demand for multimedia mobile devices, we have
recently seen heavy interest in our Chinese instrument soundbanks."
"By offering a validated, fully tested integration of Sonic Network's EAS,
we allow handset makers to rapidly accelerate time to market with new
phones incorporating the latest MIDI ringtone technology," said Jeremy
Curtis, Agere's product manager, "especially those targeting GPRS and EDGE
solutions in the Asian markets."
"Our customers are demanding higher quality sound for their designs," said
Fang Shen, President and CEO, Fangtek. "As Sonic's EAS design uniquely
optimizes the size quality of the solution for very small processor and
memory footprints, Fangtek's first product with Sonic's EAS technology will
provide more polyphony at a superior performance/cost value, which is
critical to competitiveness in the Chinese market."
