Paste Magazine Launches New DVD, Becomes First Publication to Offer Both a DVD and CD in Each Issue

  Share With Friends

Tastemaker Paste Magazine has launched a bold, innovative new DVD sampler. Paste's December/January issue will include a DVD sampler filled with handpicked content including music videos, live performance footage, music DVD clips, theatrical trailers, and short films. Paste readers will also continue to enjoy the free 80-minute CD sampler of handpicked new music that comes with every issue. All copies of Paste will include both the CD and the DVD.

The December/January issue of Paste is the magazine's first-ever film issue and includes a cover story on Wes Anderson, a feature on Marc Forster's "Finding Neverland," and the inside scoop on music videos. Music features include stories on R.E.M., Tom Waits and Patty Loveless, as well as over 100 reviews of CDs from artists like U2, Mos Def and Interpol.

The premiere DVD features a special section from presenting sponsor Palm Pictures, which includes two music videos, DVD trailers for "Dig!," "Time of the Wolf," "Springtime in a Small Town" and "Tom Dowd & The Language of Music." Also included are trailers from Paramount Pictures' "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events," "Brokedown Melody," "Jandek On Corwood," "The Danielson Famile Movie," plus HypeFest Presents a trio of short films.

On the music video front, viewers will see 35 music videos and live performances including Elvis Costello, Norah Jones, Earlimart, Mindy Smith, Jem, Tift Merritt, The Faint, Black Keys, Devendra Banhart, Rilo Kiley, Azure Ray and Allison Moorer plus classic footage from R.E.M., The Ramones and The London Suede.

In step with its new sister DVD, the Paste music sampler CD includes Alison Krauss and Union Station, Arcade Fire and Neko Case among others.

"It's important that our readers view the DVD as valuable editorial content -- something they will watch multiple times for rare videos from their favorite musicians, entertaining and meaningful short films, enlightening movie extras and trailers," comments Paste Film Editor Tim Porter.

Publisher Nick Purdy calls this new DVD, "An experiment that's time has come. With this offering, Paste will be the first magazine to include both a free CD and a DVD in every issue." Purdy and his staff have already started programming the next issue's DVD to be included with the February/March issue of the magazine.

Based in Atlanta, Ga., the two-and-a-half-year-old independently run publication has grown rapidly pleasing an audience hungry for music and films with depth and substance. Paste covers a broad range of music, from Americana to rock, and appeals to an adult audience.

The DVD is just the latest project from the cutting-edge magazine. Purdy and editor Josh Jackson are weekly guest commentators on CNN Headline News, where they offer their Paste Picks of new CD releases. The magazine has also launched a retail listening station and an online radio station.
