MacVaugh To Join Strategic Initiatives In Healthcare

Strategic Initiatives In Healthcare, LLC (SIH) today announced that Thomas MacVaugh will officially join the firm as a vice president effective November 15.

MacVaugh is widely regarded throughout the healthcare industry as one of the leading experts in all aspects of non-labor expense management. During the past 25 years, he has held direct management and executive leadership positions in nationally recognized healthcare provider organizations, associations and alliances, group-purchasing and shared-service entities, as well as consulting and management firms.

As a managing principal, Supply Chain Performance Improvement - Contract Management Services, for Premier Purchasing Partners, LP, MacVaugh directed both the sales and operations aspects of the organization's supply chain and materials management outsourcing activities. Premier is the second largest group-purchasing and shared-services organization in the United States. Prior to joining Premier, he held similar positions with Sodexho/Marriott and he was a vice president with McFaul and Lyons Inc. MacVaugh is also recognized as one of the industry's leading consultants for group-purchasing operations. During his employment at McFaul and Lyons Inc., he assisted Bill McFaul, Chairman of the SIH, with the development of numerous strategic plans and assessments for the industry's leading group-purchasing organizations.

MacVaugh is a recipient of the Stan Costello Award from the Group Purchasing Group, that organization's most prestigious award for accomplishments by professionals in the group-purchasing industry. In addition, he was a founding board member of the Health Industry Group Purchasing Association. MacVaugh holds a BS in Business and Economics from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. and an MS in Health Services Administration from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia. He is a member of HFMA, ACHE, AHRMM, and ASHGP. MacVaugh is also a frequent speaker at both regional and national events, and he is a contributing author to professional healthcare journals on a variety of healthcare-management and cost-control topics.
