Chesapeake Offers Walls Of The Future

  Share With Friends

For most consumers, hanging and removing wallpaper is a challenging and painstaking ordeal. At Chesapeake Wallcovering, extensive development using a blend of natural and synthetic fibers like those found in everyday items like tea bags and gauze resulted in a product named Walltek. The product's properties counteract nearly every negative aspect of hanging and removing wallpaper while exhibiting the fine detailed print and color that consumers are accustomed to.

"We have put out a better product that does what we say it will do. There's no need for booking, extra adhesives, primers or sizes, and the environmental benefits are great. Walltek wallpaper resists mold and mildew, is easy to hang, and it is completely removable," said Tim Quinn, president of Chesapeake Wallcoverings.

Chesapeake, based in Baltimore, is recognized in the market for a distinctive American style and commitment to customer service. Its country kitchen and bath looks are featured in homes throughout America. Popular collections include "Peace & Plenty," "Angels & Ivy" and "Grace & Goodness."

Chesapeake's past year's experience in the world of pre-pasted non-wovens exploited its current print quality, and these new substrates delivered a product Chesapeake could launch successfully. Chesapeake was determined to get the look right so there would be no reason not to use them.

Chesapeake's first collection of wallpapers and borders using this new substrate will be released by the end of 2004, a sequel to the very popular "Family & Friends," a sampler of country themes. "Family & Friends II" also pays homage to Americana themes, but that is where the similarities end. Installation is much easier as the paper's composition is stronger, meaning it will not tear. It does not shrink, so booking is unnecessary.

Simply dipping this wallpaper in water before it is applied is sufficient to cause it to adhere to a wall. Borders may be moved around until the right location is found. The most significant thing about all of the patterns in "Family & Friends II" is that they are completely removable. No matter how long the wallpaper is up, it is guaranteed to come down cleanly with no chemicals or steamers.

Chesapeake has put their design team to the creative challenge of putting together a children's collection using Walltek. "Growing Up with Chesapeake" will provide parents with a host of kid-friendly borders to effortlessly redecorate children's rooms just as quickly as the children grow. Just like all Walltek wall coverings, these borders hang in minutes and remove in seconds.

Quinn added, "Busy parents will be able to redecorate children's rooms faster than ever before."
