A new business has just launched online, providing consumers with the chance to rate and research any business in the United States. As a free service for all, it is a way for people to help one another know which businesses to support and which to avoid.
The Consumer Reference Bureau holds records on all businesses based in the United States, whether the business is a member or not. Consumers can instantly praise, file complaints about, and access records on any business they like without cost. Feedback can be made online or by phone.
According to Joannie Burnett, founder of the Bureau, the new service is supposed to complement the efforts of the Better Business Bureau in order to protect consumers and encourage more integrity among businesses. "The BBB offers a valuable service," said Burnett, "but it's inadequate by itself. Its focus is on businesses, and ours will be on consumers. My hope is to put more power into people's hands so that businesses increasingly need to act in good faith."
While most of the CRB system is free, paid membership is also available to businesses who want additional features from the service, including notification when consumers post feedback about them, a chance to respond to that feedback, and a Business-to-Business feedback system that will launch in the coming months.
