The Champagne Fashion Brunch series, produced by USA International Fashion Shows, saw its successful debut on June 6, 2004. Held on selected Sundays, the event has generated interest on the part of enthusiastic ticket buyers, the press and fashionistas throughout the New York area as well as from around the world.
A growing number of fashion lovers from many states in the USA and from as far away as Australia have found a stylish destination on Sunday afternoons in New York, many of whom make the Champagne Fashion Brunch event part of their itinerary while in the city. A delicious champagne brunch accompanies top-of-the-line runway shows, attracting wholesale fashion buyers as part of a diverse audience who are able to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere without the typical fashion week pressures. "The audience expects a fabulous show and that is exactly what they get," said producer Andres Aquino.
Recent participating designers in the Champagne Fashion Brunch include: Dominican-born couture designer Lourdes Atencio Libman; gifted South African designer Clive Rundle; Linda Baptista from Austin, Texas, who is originally from the Cape Verdean islands; Chi Chi E whose Vintique line is based in Philadelphia; Edwing D'Angelo who was recently featured on NBC television; and Cantore by Carlos Antonio Reaves. Also shown on the runway: jewelry by talented young designer Kendra Roberts; sexy footwear by Carlos Molina, known as the "shoe architect", originally from Ecuador and now established in New York City; and exquisite handbags by Russian-born designer Clara Kasavina whose line is currently sold at Bergdorf Goodman in New York City. The stunning makeup sported by the gorgeous runway models was sponsored by Shiseido.
Designers or their representatives are usually available to take orders on the spot and interact with the audience. Different designers continue to be featured at each Champagne Fashion Brunch, ensuring a new presentation for every audience.
The fashion shows are primarily a showcase for national and international designers who create couture and finely tailored garments. The shows lead up to Couture Fashion Week 2004, to be held in New York City in September. In addition to being a unique opportunity for talented fashion designers, the event attracts the participation of stunning runway models, trend setting hair stylists and creative makeup artists, like the Shiseido team.
"Being part of this fashion event has been great," said Lourdes Atencio Libman who presented her collection during past USA International Fashion Shows events in February and September 2003. "Through these shows my collection and name have been covered in magazines in London, Bangkok, Singapore and in a number of other cities around the world as well as the Internet." A favorite designer of many Miami socialites and the First Lady of the Dominican Republic, Libman's beautiful gowns were recently worn by Miss Nicaragua and Miss Canada during the 2004 Miss Universe pageant held in Panama and are currently being offered through an exclusive Madison Avenue boutique.
The shows take place at Gallery, The Gershwin Hotel on New York's chic East Side. Rapidly becoming known as one of the trendiest gathering spots in the city, Gallery is a Pop Art enclave with brightly colored sectional seating accented with plush oversized couches, retro style DJ booth and a staff outfitted in Jean-Paul Gaulthier designs.
