A Perilous World and a Perilous Era: What Does The Future Hold?

As you know, I generally limit my commentaries to issues that involve the myriad aspects of the immigration crisis that confronts our nation and impacts so many of the serious challenges that face the United States today.

I stumbled across the article I have attached below that appeared in today’s edition of the Washington Times and I feel compelled to provide you with this startling and extremely disturbing news report.

4 GOP leaders warn of uranium mine sale Russian agency would take over By Eli Lake

The United States has been bending over backwards to push “nuclear nonproliferation” and now it would appear that the administration is willing to sell controlling interest in a uranium mine to Russia!

Here is the sentence in the news report that succinctly addresses this plan:

The lawmakers are raising alarm over the proposed sale of a Powder River Basin, Wyoming-based uranium processing facility operated by Uranium One USA, a Canadian-based company, to Atomredmetzoloto, a subsidiary of the Russian government agency Rosatom, according to a letter obtained Tuesday by The Washington Times.

I am at an utter loss to begin to fathom what is going on!

Consider the justification provided by the administration as noted in this excerpted segment from the report that not only explains the administration’s perspective but also illustrates the concerns the reasons that members of Congress have about this apparently wrong-headed deal:

The GOP opposition to the business deal is the first major political clash over foreign investment in a sensitive U.S. industry since the fight over Dubai Ports World in 2006. In that clash, bipartisan outrage on Capitol Hill erupted when the George W. Bush administration tentatively approved the purchase of contracts to manage six major U.S. seaports by the company based in the United Arab Emirates.

This time, the proposed sale presents a test for President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton of their hopes to “reset” relations with Russia on a wide range of fronts. The administration is also pushing hard for the Senate to ratify strategic arms treaty negotiated earlier this year between Moscow and Washington.

The letter opposing the sale was sent Tuesday by four Republicans: Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen of Florida, Spencer Bachus of Alabama, Peter T. King of New York and Howard P. “Buck” McKeon of California. Those members are, respectively, the ranking minority members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, the House Financial Services Committee, the House Homeland Security Committee, and the House Armed Services Committee.

I again want to make it clear that this issue is well outside my area of expertise; however, I am greatly concerned about the purported reasoning behind this apparent madness!

A couple of weeks ago Hillary Clinton claimed that the administration was addressing “human rights” in the United States by suing the state of Arizona in an insane effort to block that beleaguered state from enforcing immigration laws that the federal government apparently wishes weren’t on the books and now the administration is willing to cede control over a major source of uranium to Russia!

I am becoming increasingly convinced that our planet has fallen into a wormhole and we are now in a parallel universe!

The final sentences of the news report does not go far enough to reflect my concerns:

For now, the Republican lawmakers are urging Treasury’s Mr. Geithner to block the sale.

“We believe the takeover of essential U.S. nuclear resources by a government-owned Russian agency, as would occur under the proposed transaction, would not advance the national security and interests of the United States,” they wrote.

Nearly a century ago, Lenin stated that the “Capitalists will sell us the rope with which we will hang them.”

It is not rope that our country is willing to sell but the fuel by which nuclear reactors produce energy and of really huge concern- the key ingredient of nuclear weapons!

If you find yourself to be in agreement with this commentary, I ask that you forward it to as many of your friends and family members as possible and encourage them to do the same. We need to create a “Bucket Brigade of Truth!”

In less than 4 weeks, each and every member of the House of Representatives is up for reelection and more than one third of the members of the United States Senate will have to face their constituents. They need to be reminded that they work for us, We the People!

However, the practice of good citizenship does not end in the voting booth, it only begins there.

The large scale apathy demonstrated by citizens of this nation has emboldened elected representatives to all but ignore the needs of the average American citizen in a quest for massive campaign funds and the promises of votes to be ostensibly delivered by special interest groups. There is much that we cannot do but there is one thing that We the People absolutely must do- we must stop sitting on the sidelines!

The collective failure of We the People to get involved in make our concerns known to our politicians have nearly made the concerns of the great majority of the citizens of this nation all but irrelevant to the politicians. I implore you to get involved!

If this situation concerns you or especially if it angers you, I ask you to call your Senators and Congressional “Representative. This is not only your right- it is your obligation!

All I ask is that you make it clear to our politicians that we are not as dumb as they hope we are!

We live in a perilous world and in a perilous era. The survival of our nation and the lives of our citizens hang in the balance.

This is neither a Conservative issue, nor is it a Liberal issue- simply stated; this is most certainly an AMERICAN issue!

You are either part of the solution or you are a part of the problem!

Democracy is not a spectator sport!

Lead, follow or get out of the way!
