Very rarely does a band come along that breaks sonic barriers and shakes up the very foundations on which rock and roll was formed. Today we are fortunate to have such a band, that we can see tearing it up in the trenches, before they go on to become a stadium sized act. That band is called The Undead Hearts, and if you dig loud rock and roll across various genres including metal, industrial, punk, and grunge, you’ll be wise to witness them now, before they blow up even bigger. With summer officially here, there is none better to bring in the celebration than The Undead Hearts.
Formed on Halloween of 2010, Undead Hearts has seen a rotating powerhouse of rock stars round out their ranks, from Jeff Friedl (Filter, Devo, Puscifer, A Perfect Circle, Eagles of Death Metal), Michael Eisenstein (Letters to Cleo), and Blair Sinta (Alanis Morissette) among more. Today’s permanent line up of Undead Hearts members includes rocking crooner Draven Midnight (vocals and guitar), Harley Duggan; bringing a solid groove on bass, Nick Mason; bringing down the house with a wicked rhythm section on drums, and the bands recently added newest member; Ramon Blanco, tearing out soaring riffs on guitar. Forget the fact that Undead Hearts are comprised of four hot guys that women have been going crazy over on stage – because these guys actually massively rock.
Draven Midnight’s undeniable creative genius as a songwriter and composer would be commendable enough. Yet even more newsworthy, is the fact of the bands three other musicians’ massive talent that rounds out Undead Hearts into a perfect vision of Draven’s force – guided like a heat seeking missile, into a sonic blast of raging power.
World Famous concert venue Whisky a Go Go in Hollywood, California, where Jim Morrison of the Doors used to play weekly, said of the Undead Hearts, “These guys are ‘really’ good. They are seriously talented. They have good songs. They could be really big!” Maitri of Christian Death stated of the Undead Hearts, “These guys rock! I like what they are doing!” Legendary rock magazine subnormal states, “We’ve seen Smashing Pumpkins when they had pumpkins on stage, Billy Corgan had long hair, and they were not even yet signed to a major. We’ve seen literally thousands of shows, and we can tell you with authority, if Undead Hearts continues on the path they are headed, they are going to be a majorly huge act.”
Yet unlike most sex, drugs, and rock and roll drenched bands, where roadie girls, groupies and cocaine flow freely, The Undead Hearts shatters such passe’ cliches and dead end trappings. You also won’t see any illuminati posing, or satanic flirting here. On the contrary; Draven Midnight of Undead Hearts states, “I want to turn the music industry on its head. I want to shake things up. I want to give people what they think they want – doom and gloom, but then show them, look! There is a light at the end of the tunnel, there is hope. All of this hatred and negativity is not the answer. Our message is about faith in the good, and about doing the right thing.” With a message like that, it’s no wonder the buzz is growing. It’s not cool any more to be a jerk. A new age is here, and The Undead Hearts are at the forefront, helping to usher in the wave. Get ready for the ride – its a fun one, and well worth the ticket.
Undead Hearts will be performing July 14th and August 18th at 9pm at The Canyon Club, at 28912 Roadside Drive, Agoura Hills, CA 91301-3304.
