Formerly known as the Annual Bob Marley Festival Tour, the 2006 Annual “Universal Love” Legends of Rasta Reggae Festival Tour is the original Reggae Festival Tour. Over the past 19 years, the Houston based Tour has visited over 45 cities in the United States and abroad, making it the longest running Touring Festival in the world.
This year marks the 20th year since the first tour and the 15th year it has traveled the world to spread awareness of Reggae Music and messages of Universal Love, Peace & Unity along with the Rastafarian way.
The 2006 Tour theme is “Universal Love” and the theme song is “I Can See Clearly”, by Johnny Nash.
The diverse American community expected to see the festival includes fans of reggae, dance hall and world-beat music and the many followers of the “Rasta Movement”, a Christian based religious philosophy involving the descendents of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba.
In 1991, the Festival began its now very popular tradition of asking the public for donations in lieu of admission during the first 3 hours each day, to benefit participating nonprofits.
Over the 19 years, this tradition has generated over $990,000 in cash and over 1.9 million pounds of food, school supplies and books for nonprofit organizations throughout the US. Donations at this year’s event are to benefit Selected Hurricane Relief Housing charities and other local non-profits that support the Gulf Hurricane relief Housing funds.
“Universal Love”, the theme of the 2006 Legends Tour reflects the message of Reggae music and the Rastafarian way. It is the foundation for what the Festival has always stood for. With so much strife, terrorism and conflict going on in the world today, the organizers say people everywhere are searching for “Universal Love” in everything that they are involved in.
A core group of 20-25 acts are selected to be part of the Tour each year. In each city on the Tour, local bands are added to provide a unique regional flavor to the Festival. Dance troupes, jugglers and poets may provide offstage entertainment.
There will be 8 to 12 acts daily along with the dancehall DJs between sets. There is plenty of good food, plus Arts & Crafts from all over the world.
Children of all ages will enjoy the Playscape Area featuring games, rides, and storytellers in select cities. As in previous years, the Tour will feature Caribbean, African and Third World arts and crafts along with some of the best foods from these regions. Many of the vendors travel from city to city with the Tour each year.
Visit the online Store www.LegendsFestivalMarket.com to get an overview of some of the items that you will find at each Festival stop from vendors that participate.
In order to enhance security, fans may not bring Food, Beverages, Glass or Containers into the Festival.
