Are Dance DJ’s Replacing Rock and Roll?

While many live bands are struggling to find an audience, DJ’s are tearing up the charts and hyping up massive crowds bigger than ever before, reports music veteran Bruce Edwin.

“Electronic dance music used to be an alternative to the mainstream,” Bruce Edwin states. “Tours like Gatecrusher were about as big as it got, with artists like Chemical Brothers and Crystal Method paving the way. Today, however, electronic dance music has gone mainstream, DJ’s are becoming like rock stars, and many actual bands are finding it more difficult to connect too many kids that are getting swept up in the new rave scenes of festivals like Giant, Electric Daisy Carnival, and more.” Bruce Edwin adds, “I know of some bands that are actually even laying down their guitars and selling their gear for turntables. They say they can make more money spinning than playing live.”

Bruce Edwin continues, “The unique thing now however, which I find interesting, are bands that incorporate DJ’s into their set, and DJ’s that bring aboard live acts, or even better, sing themselves. There are not many, but one DJ duo that I find really hot right now doing just that is an act called Nervo. Nervo are two DJ’s that perform together that look like a couple of female fashion models, yet they rock out hardcore with expert mixing and producing and on top of all that, they both sing. That all makes for an awesome combination.”

NERVO

Nervo premiered the video for their new single “We’re All No One” featuring superstar DJ’s Steve Aoki and Afrojack just recently on MTV’s new dance music hour “Clubland,” MTV Hits and mtvU. Both Steve Aoki and Afrojack make cameos in the video which can be seen at the link below.

“We’re All No One” is first single that NERVO (Liv & Mim) have released through Astralwerks Records and the first major label release in which they perform vocals. “We’re All No One” was released last month as a remix package and is climbing the Billboard club charts where it is currently at #31 as of press time.

NERVO have spent much of the last two years touring the world and climbing the ranks to become the hottest DJ duo on the circuit. Having spent most of the summer opening for Britney Spears and Nicki Minaj on the Femme Fatale tour and on the traveling electronic music festival, Identity, the girls’ return to the U.S. for a few shows before the new year included gigs in October, and now November and December dates of their monthly Las Vegas residence at the Wynn Hotel.

As songwriters, Liv & Mim recently added Nicole Scherzinger to their growing list of artists to record one of their songs. They penned Scherzingers’ just announced next single “Try For Me.” They co-wrote one of David Guetta’s new songs “Night Of Your Life” featuring Jennifer Hudson from David Guetta’s latest album ‘Nothing But The Beat.’ The last song they co-wrote for David Guetta, “When Love Takes Over” featuring Kelly Rowland won a Grammy award and reached #1 in eleven countries.

As producers, NERVO recently celebrated their 1st Beatport #1 song with the official Tomorrowland Festival anthem “The Way We See The World” which they co-wrote and co-produced with Afrojack, Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike. “The Way We See The World” joins the growing list of NERVO club hits which includes 2010’s “This Kind Of Love” and “Irresistible” both featuring vocalist Ollie James, illustrating their rising status in the Electrontic Dance scene while being equally at home in the world of contemporary pop.
