“He was a cop and good at his job, but he committed the ultimate sin, and testified against other cops gone bad — cops that tried to kill him, but got the woman he loved instead. Framed for murder, now he prowls the badlands: an outlaw hunting outlaws, a bounty hunter … a RENEGADE”
One of the few hits from Stephen J. Cannell during the 1990s, the syndicated action series “Renegade” (1992-97) starred Lorenzo Lamas as Reno Raines, a honest cop whose girlfriend was murdered and is framed for the murder of a fellow officer by corrupt Donald “Dutch” Dixon (Cannell). Riding on his Harley, Reno becomes Vincent Black, bounty hunter for Sixkiller Enterprises. With the help of his boss and friend Bobby Sixkiller (Branscombe Richmond) and his sister Cheyenne (Kathleen Kinmont), Reno fights to bring law and order wherever he goes while trying to take down Nixon and clear his name.
Currently re-released on DVD, season two is where “Renegade” hit its stride, as it was one of the most popular shows in the world alongside defending champion “Baywatch”, and Mill Creek Entertainment will finally released all five seasons in a 20-disc set.
Like “Knight Rider” and “The A-Team”, “Renegade” is a modern-day Western with Reno Raines/Vincent Black as a Lone Ranger for the 1990s: a long-haired crusading champion for the innocent, the helpless, and the powerless, and a fugitive from justice for justice.
Season two of “Renegade” is now available on DVD and the complete series will be release on October 12.
